Hotels near Mascot station: how far to the train and the airport

Seven hotels are within about an 11-minute walk of Mascot station. Here is how far each one is, and why the train to the terminals costs more than you might expect.

Mascot station is the stop before the Domestic airport station, so hotels close to it suit travellers who want trains to the city without crossing the airport precinct with bags. But the train is not the bargain it looks for the terminals themselves. This guide shows how far each hotel is from the station, and where the train does and does not save you money.

Distances come from our hotel pages, hotel and Booking.com listings, and Transport for NSW, checked on 21 October 2026. They change, so check them before you travel.

The catch with the train

The T8 Airport & South Line runs frequently every day, according to Transport for NSW. Mascot is one stop from the Domestic station, and one listing puts the International station two stops away.

The catch is the station access fee. Transport for NSW lists a flat $10.34 on top of the train fare for travel between Mascot and an airport station. For comparison, the standard adult airport station access fee is $18.61 per trip. So from Mascot the train to the terminals is cheaper than from the city, but it is rarely the cheapest option. Walking, a hotel shuttle or bus route 420, which links Mascot with each terminal at normal Opal fares, usually costs less.

Where the station earns its place is the trip into the city. The access fee table covers trips that start or end at an airport station, and it does not list Mascot to the city. Check the Transport for NSW trip planner for your own journey.

Hotels by distance to Mascot station

Nearest first, with how each one reaches the terminals:

Moxy Sydney Airport is a different case. Its shuttle stops at Mascot station, and a complimentary shuttle was announced in January 2025. Check that it is still free.

Which should you pick?

  • The shortest walk to the station: Adina, then the two Meriton hotels.
  • Apartment space: Adina or either Meriton, and see our guide to apartment-style stays.
  • Walking to the terminals: none of these is a terminal-side hotel. See hotels within walking distance of the terminals.
  • A free or cheap transfer: check the Moxy shuttle, the Travelodge direct-booking rate and the Sunny Rooms rate. We could not confirm any of them, so ask the hotel.

Common questions

Does Mascot station have a lift and step-free access?

Transport for NSW lists Mascot as independent access, with a lift, an escalator and stairs, plus wheelchair ramp boarding assistance and a hearing loop on the concourse. It also lists toilets, including an accessible toilet, a taxi rank and a kiss-and-ride area. The station is staffed from 5am to 11.30pm.

What if I need to reach the terminals before the first train?

Trains run from about 5am, so an earlier start needs another plan. Moxy's shuttle was announced to run from 04:45 to the domestic terminal, and Mascot station has a taxi rank. Confirm shuttle times with your hotel before you rely on them, and keep a taxi or rideshare as a back-up. See where to stay for an early morning flight.

What do other airport line trips cost in station access fees?

Transport for NSW lists flat fees on top of the fare of $12.74 between an airport station and Green Square, and $5.20 between the Domestic and International stations. Station access fees sit outside the Opal daily and weekly caps, and the 60-minute transfer does not apply at airport stations, so tapping off and on again counts as two journeys with two fees.
