If you are travelling with children, staying more than a night or two, or simply want somewhere to cook and spread out, an apartment-style hotel can suit you better than a standard room. Five apartment-style hotels near Sydney Airport are worth a look. This guide sets out what each offers and where the catches are.

Details come from the hotels' own pages, listings and reviews. Shuttle prices and times are not confirmed for several of them, so check with the hotel before you book.

Why choose an apartment

  • Space and a kitchen. Useful for families, longer stays and anyone who wants to avoid eating out every night.
  • A short stay can still work. A guest review of Meriton Suites Sydney Airport calls it convenient for early departures and arrivals.

The catch is that none of them is at the terminal. Each relies on a shuttle, a short drive or the train, so the transfer is the thing to check.

The five options

  • Adina Apartment Hotel: one listing puts it about 250 m from Mascot station, one stop from the domestic terminals by train. An airport shuttle is listed and a guest review calls it convenient. The price and hours are not confirmed.
  • Citadines Connect Sydney Airport: about a two-minute drive from the domestic terminal, and about 4.1 km (roughly a 10-minute drive) from T1, so it suits domestic flyers better. One description puts the walk to the domestic terminal at about 15 minutes. A shuttle is listed, but the details are not confirmed.
  • Meriton Suites Sydney Airport: Meriton says Mascot station is 400 m away, with trains about every 10 minutes. It runs a paid airport shuttle to both the International and Domestic terminals, booked through Guest Services, and a guest review calls it convenient for early departures and arrivals.
  • Meriton Suites Mascot Central: about 2 km from the airport and about 420 m from Mascot station. The domestic terminals are one stop by train and the International terminal two. A return shuttle is part of Meriton's "Park, Sleep and Fly" package, so check whether it is included in a standard rate.
  • Quest Mascot: about a three-minute drive from the domestic terminal and nine minutes from T1. A return shuttle is available on request for a surcharge. An older review says the domestic side may be walkable with little luggage, so check on a map.

Which terminal are you flying from?

If you are flying from T1 (international), none of these is close. Quest is about nine minutes by road and Citadines about ten, and Meriton Suites Sydney Airport runs a paid shuttle to both terminals. If you are flying from T2 or T3 (domestic), Adina, Citadines and Quest are all a short drive or train ride away.

Getting to the terminal with a family

A shuttle priced per person adds up quickly with children, so ask whether the fee is per person or per trip and whether children are charged. The train from Mascot station is an alternative, but airport stations add a station access fee on top of the fare, so check the cost for the whole family. For the domestic terminals, Mascot station is one stop away and cheaper to use than the airport's own station.

Before you book

  1. Ask whether the shuttle is free or paid, and what it costs for your party.
  2. Check the first and last shuttle times against your flight.
  3. Ask about check-in and check-out times, especially for a late arrival.
  4. Look at the room type and what is in the kitchen, because it varies.
